Me & My Dunlops

We are pleased to present the third article in our new ‘Me and My Dunlops’ series. This is dedicated to the adventurers among you, where you tell us the places that you and your Dunlop’s have explored, sites you have seen and where exactly your tyres have taken you.

Andy Müller from Switzerland tells us how he rode with confidence...

The Ligurian border crest road 2009
It began a few years ago and then became a tradition.
Each year at the start of September, we, a group of Swiss motorbiking boys, always head off in the direction of sunny weather...

This route fascinated us for the first time in 2003. The Dunlop Trailmax tyres on the Honda Dominator already served me well then.

We followed the route once more in 2006. The Dunlop Trailmax were fitted to a Suzuki DR650SE.

Once again in 2009 in ideal weather, the outward journey took place through Bernina into Lombardy (Croce Domini) via the Brescia Piacenza motorway into Piedmont. After a transverse entry like in 2003 through the village of Monesi into the Ligurian border crest road, the adventure began afresh. The entire length of the crest road is around 85 km. The height is between 1,800 and 2,200 metres.
But you really would like to have big country tyres in the most difficult section near the Malaberghe/Boaire passes, where you plunge into floating rough gravel through rock climbs.

However, the DR 650 and Trailmax combination is a good-natured mix and burrowed right on course through the underground upwards. This is a real strain with heavy bikes or road tyres.
A subsequent section of the route (Passo Perla) was blocked off by barriers (because of a rock fall). To our relief this proved to be a false alarm. This was lucky, because we did not want to turn back or stay overnight here.

The route home took us via the locations of Sospel (passes: Restefond, Vars, Izoard, Galibier), Sestriere (pass: Finestrelle) and Susa back into Switzerland.
The Trailmax is also convincing on the road with its good handling, so the way home was not a problem either.

I am already looking forward to the next September Trailmax tour...
